How it used to be
It wasn’t too long ago that showing up to the job on time and working hard ensured people a solid middle class existence. It was possible own a modest house, raise a few kids, save for their college, take a family vacation every summer, and generally live a good American life.
It wasn’t all that long ago that if you had a job, you got decent benefits such as effective healthcare, time off, and sick days. Sick days for employees help companies by keeping people with communicable diseases out of the office.
How it is today
Now most jobs don’t even give sick days. Workers get sick, they lose their vacation. Or they come into work and make others sick, costing their coworker vacation days and the company countless hours of lost productivity.
Why do companies put up with lost productivity? Well, to start with, the CEO and upper management got big bonuses, raises, and stock options for cutting sick days and other long term money saving expenses. Made them look good that quarter. Who cares about the future. They will have golden parachuted elsewhere by then.
It doesn’t have to be this way. It wasn’t this way just a few years ago, and it’s not that way in much of the world. This terrible job situation is something we can change. Something we can make better. I want to help with that. I can help with that.
