As both a member of the Community Corrections board and a journalist in Posey County, I worked closely with local law enforcement, the prosecutor, and judiciary and earned their trust as an honest reporter and colleague.
I support laws that help and protect law enforcement officers, the great majority of which are great people doing a tough job that benefits us all. But I also recognize that they occasionally make a bad hire, and that in some cases the public needs laws and policies that protect us from rogue law enforcement. That’s the balance we need to strike.
I think technology will be a big help for that issue. Body cams and dash cams, for example, protect both police and the public. That’s just one example of a simple measure that works.
